Google Presentation

PowerPoint VS. Google Presentation!?!

I've heard many compelling arguments for and against each of these presentation tools.  I haven't used either one enough to be an expert, but I believe each has it's benefits.

PowerPoint may be a more robust presentation program, but nothing can beat the collaboration that Google has to offer.  With Google Presentation, the presenter can publish the slides online.  With access to the URL, the other students can pose questions and post comments during the presentation.  Though I haven't done this with my fourth graders yet, I'm sure the students would be more engaged than sitting back listening with nothing better to do.

In addition, PowerPoint files easily convert into Google Presentation slides.  Here is an example of a Google Presentation I made for open house this year.

  1. I love your Google Presentation! Great idea. And I love your safari theme--so clever.

I agree that the ability to collaborate and publish a Google Presentation definitely beats everything a PowerPoint slideshow can do.

One of my fav features in Google Presentation is the ease with which you can embed a YouTube video. Just takes a few clicks and it is there. So much easier than trying to get video into PowerPoint!

    1. Thanks, Mickie! I've had a safari theme since I began teaching 6 years ago... you should see my classroom! :)

I enjoyed making the Google Presentation... super easy to use. And I'm sure even easier for the students to use!

  2. Nice Presentation for the beginning of the school year. I need to work on Google Presentations more. We seem to get stuck with what we are familiar with like power point and don't experiment with new things. That is what I am trying to accomplish with this summer challenge. It looks like you are great with many of these technologies already! :)

    1. Thank you, Leann. I'm in the same boat as you... often I stick with what I'm comfortable with. I learned that when I stick my neck out there learning these new technology pieces are not that difficult and make for a more efficient and fun classroom. :)

  3. I love the idea of a welcome for parents! I really want to get my Google Site up and linked to our school webpage before school starts, but I am working through the challenges slower than expected. A class schedule and Presentation similar to yours, and I am good to go! (I just had to go back and edit the last sentence. I had written "PowerPoint". Go figure! Ha!!)

    1. Christen... that's funny cus I also had to delete the word "PowerPoint" on my original presentation!

Good luck finishing all your challenges and "to do" lists for school... I'm in the same boat... summer flies by too quickly.

  4. The part about converting old PowerPoints to Google Presentations is awesome. I have so many random and semi-organized PowerPoints lying around. It would be much easier to convert them to Google Presentations. I love your Presentation! Great Safari theme. I, too, love how Presentations can easily be collaborated with my Blog, my Google Site, etc.

  5. I couldn't agree more about he ease of collaborating with Google. It is the best feature of the program in my opinion. I miss some of the "cute" aspects of PowerPoint, but being able to easily share presentations to work with others really overpowers any missing features.

  6. Your open house presentation is fantastic! Kids and parents will enjoy watching it with you. I've worked a little with presentations throughout last school year. It has a lot of nice features, including the collaboration aspect. Students can work together to create presentations to share with the class, and I hope to do more of that this school year.
